A natural sweetener, the leaves are 200-300 times sweeter than cane sugar and it has zero calories as humans cannot metabolise the glycosides in stevia. Intense sweetness but with no increase in blood sugar levels.
Use the leaves directly for sweetening hot drinks or alternatively sprinkle leaves in salads, cereals, over meats and with cooked vegetables to enhance flavour.
Native to areas of Paraguay and Brazil in the southern Amazon rainforest, Stevia is a sub-tropical, frost-sensitive perennial that is ideally suited for growing as a kitchen pot plant. Plants can be left outside during summer but must be brought in before the temperature drops below 1°C. Protect from wind and frost.
Grow on, in a light, sandy soil with good drainage and do not over water.
Also known as sugar herb.
Surface Sow: Requires light to germinate. Scatter seed on the surface. Press seed down into the soil. Keep moist.
Please Note: Due to having very small seeds we pack this variety into Natureflex™ cellulose bags that are certified home compostable before placing within our usual foil packets.
