Melinis Silver Queen

Melinis multiflora ‘Silver Queen’ is an ornamental grass prized for its airy, shimmering flower heads that appear to float above fine, arching foliage. Producing tall, silvery-pink plumes on wiry stems, it adds a soft, textural element to garden beds, wildflower meadows and cut flower arrangements. The delicate seed heads are especially popular for fresh and dried floral use, where their elegant form and subtle colouring enhance bouquets with movement and grace.

In the garden, ‘Silver Queen’ is perfect for mixed borders, gravel gardens or naturalistic plantings, where it sways gently in the breeze and catches the light. The plants form neat clumps of fine green leaves and produce their signature blooms from midsummer into autumn. At maturity, they typically reach 50–70 cm in height.

Melinis prefers full sun with well-drained soil and is drought-tolerant once established. Minimal maintenance is required—just cut back old flower heads in winter.
