Delphinium consolida ‘Pink Queen’, commonly known as larkspur, is a graceful annual grown for its tall, slender flower spikes densely packed with delicate soft-pink blooms. It brings a romantic, cottage-garden charm to flower borders and is especially valued as a cut flower for both fresh and dried arrangements. The blooms last well in water and retain their form and gentle colour when dried, making them ideal for bouquets, wreaths and floral crafts.
In the garden, ‘Pink Queen’ grows upright to around 90–120 cm and is best suited to mid to back borders, where its vertical form provides contrast among bushier plants. Its soft pink hue complements blues, purples and whites in mixed plantings and is highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
Once established, larkspur prefers full sun and light, well-drained soil. Water regularly during dry periods but avoid overwatering. Plants begin to flower approximately 80–90 days after sowing. Staking may be necessary in exposed areas. Regular cutting or deadheading will prolong blooming.
Caution: All parts of this plant are poisonous, including the seeds. Exercise extreme caution around children and pets.
Stratify: Chilling seeds in the fridge for 2-3 weeks prior to sowing will promote germination by breaking seed dormancy.
