Celosia Crystal Beauty

Sparkling peach-to-champagne coloured crested celosia. Uniform, upright plants and stems. Shimmering, fan-shaped combs are peach-coloured with hints of pink and gold. Upright, clean stems are easy to harvest. Branching plants produce multiple stems.

Celosia ‘Crystal Beauty’ (Celosia argentea var. cristata) is a compact, ornamental annual celebrated for its unique, crested flower heads that resemble brightly coloured coral. Typically appearing in shades of vivid pink to red, the blooms have a velvety texture and a sculptural form that adds flair to gardens and floral arrangements. With a tidy growth habit and abundant flowering, it’s an excellent choice for both ornamental borders and floral use.

As a cut flower, ‘Crystal Beauty’ is highly valued for its long-lasting blooms and unusual appearance. The flowers maintain their colour and form well in water and can also be dried for lasting arrangements—simply hang stems upside down in a dark, well-ventilated space. The plant’s strong stems and bold structure make it a standout in mixed bouquets.

In the garden, Celosia performs beautifully as a border plant, bringing subtle colour and sculptural form to flower beds. Growing to 60–90?cm tall, it adds vertical interest and pairs well with zinnias, marigolds, and ornamental grasses. Its upright habit and dense flower heads also attract bees and butterflies.

Sow indoors from late winter to mid-spring. Sow onto moist seed raising mix and press lightly—do not cover, as light aids germination. When seedlings have true leaves, harden off and plant out after the last frost. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil, and water regularly without over-wetting. Avoid high nitrogen fertilisers to prevent excess foliage growth. Pinching is recommended to encourage branching. Low temperatures and less than 12 hours of light can cause premature flowering.

Surface Sow: Requires light to germinate. Sow seed on the surface. Press seed down into the soil. Keep moist.
