This unique plant adds vertical interest to garden beds and bouquets, captivating gardeners with its tall, upright stems adorned with vibrant green, bell-shaped calyces. Pick when all bracts are open and stiff to the touch.
For dried bouquets mix two parts boiling water to one part glycerine. When still warm immerse stems about 7 to 10cm deep for minimum 6 hours. Remove when drops of glycerine appear on the bells and gently wipe off and hang upside down.
Germination is often slow and erratic so be patient. Chill seed in the fridge for 2-3 weeks prior to sowing if sowing after early spring or place freshly sown trays outside for a few weeks to expose to cold temperatures.
