Arabis Rosea

Arabis Rosea (Arabis alpina sp. caucasica) is a charming, low-growing perennial known for its delicate pink to rose-coloured blooms and trailing habit. Native to mountainous regions of Europe and Asia, this hardy plant is ideal for temperate climates and thrives in well-drained soils and full sun. Growing to a height of 10–15?cm, it forms a dense mat of evergreen foliage that provides year-round interest.

Widely used as a ground cover, Arabis Rosea excels at suppressing weeds while adding a soft carpet of colour in early spring. Its trailing stems make it perfect for pots, borders and rock gardens, where it spills attractively over edges and stones. It also complements spring-flowering bulbs and low-growing alpines, creating a layered and naturalistic effect in garden design.

For home gardeners growing from seed, Arabis Rosea requires some initial attention. Seeds can be sown indoors or in a cold frame from late winter to early spring. Sow onto moist, well-draining soil and press gently into the surface—do not cover, as light aids germination. Once large enough to handle, transplant to individual pots and grow on before planting outdoors after the risk of frost has passed.

This plant prefers poor to moderately fertile soil and minimal watering once established. Avoid heavy feeding, which can reduce flowering. Trim lightly after blooming to encourage compact growth and maintain a tidy appearance.
