Achillea Cassis

Achillea Cassis (Achillea millefolium) is a vibrant, long-blooming cultivar of yarrow prized for its striking deep pink to raspberry-red flower heads, which form dense, flat-topped clusters atop feathery, grey-green foliage. This herbaceous perennial not only adds bold colour to garden borders but is also a favourite in floral arrangements due to its long vase life and sturdy stems. As a cut flower, Achillea holds its colour well after cutting and can be used fresh or dried, making it a versatile choice for both traditional and rustic bouquets. Its long stems and flat flower heads pair well with a wide range of other flowers, adding texture and contrast.
In the garden border, it contributes a cottage garden charm and thrives in mass plantings, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Its tolerance to heat, drought and poor soil makes it ideal for low-maintenance, sustainable landscaping.
Seeds should be sown indoors 8–10 weeks before the last frost or directly outdoors after danger of frost has passed. Once seedlings are established, they can be transplanted into well-draining soil in a sunny location. Minimal watering is needed once plants are mature. Deadheading spent blooms encourages prolonged flowering, while dividing clumps every few years maintains vigour and prevents overcrowding.
